      >the group said Ireland’s Gaelic speakers gave up the language “mostly of their own free will”

I see the far right ‘nationalists’ on X are giving out about Kneecap and their use of Irish.

    3. It’s paywalled for me, it cuts off at a very funny moment:

      >The group behind an anti-Irish language leafleting campaign is considering running candidates in upcoming elections on both sides of the border.

      >Based…

They’ll get a few votes from the r/ireland lads anyway.

      The 2020s are insane …

Clearly some people who’ve never left their internet bubble.

That or some kind of Russian AI bots that haven’t quite figured Irish politics out.

It’s also incredibly insulting to Irish Protestants btw — plenty of Protestant Gaelgóirí out there in the 26 counties and the 6 counties. I mean ffs Douglas Hyde / Dubhghlas de hÍde was probably one of the most prominent drivers of the revival movement, and very definitely a Protestant.

Whole thing is a pile of sectarian bollox.

They should run in the Outer Hebrides under that name, I want to see the reaction.

I wonder how this would square with the constitution. Irish is legally protected (both north and south).

While it’s perfectly legal to advocate changes to the constitution if they actually tried to do anything without going via the constitution it wouldn’t end well.

They feel like wind up merchants though.
