Where are the goddamn powerful MIC lobbyists when there’s finally a just war?

War for oil and destabilizing they can’t reach for their bribes fast enough, but when defending democracy they’re suddenly busy elsewhere

That’s why you have Europe, don’t give up, you can still hold.

Losing US support would suck, for sure. However, at least by now EU and rest of the world have scaled up production of some consumables, like 155mm shells so even if US stops it will no longer be an immediate armageddon. War would be a lot harder, but on the other hand russia ain’t doing all that good either. It is possible that Ukraine would have to last only like half a year more for something in russia to break with their increasingly desperate “quick fixes” they have been doing for three years already.

The worst would be if US would move quickly to lift sanctions, but even then EU would not follow, but the main problem would be giving breathing room to russia.

I think Ukraine needs to step up efforts in producing their own weapons at home. They are pretty good now.

Europe is very slow to make decisions.
US just needs Trumpov to make a knee jerk response and they will obediently follow.

It is true that Ukraine cannot survive without foreign weapons. It is also true that many weapons they use are not from America. Every personal weapon: service pistol, assault rifle, machine gun, anti-tank weapon, anti-drone weapon, and man portable SAM is available and in fact being supplied from other countries.

Same is true of APCs, IFVs, tanks and artillery.

America was the largest repository of weapons in the western hemisphere. It deliberately took upon itself that role post WW2. And so naturally it was the most immediate resource for Ukraine and has supplied the largest quantity from a single nation to this date in the war.

Gradually that is being supplanted. The EU manufactures 2x more 155mm munitions than America. Ukraine is making its own drones, shells, grenades & bullets. The largest suppliers of new MRAPs & APCs has been Canada (over 1500). The British have restarted the production of 155mm artillery. Ukraine actually makes the most Self Propelled 155mm system (2S22 Bohdana). Plus all the Euro manufacturers of 155mm SPGs have all stepped up their manufacturing rates – doubling and tripling their monthly production.

It has taken time to get to this point but 2025 will be a yr where it grows. At the outset of the war the modern IRIS-T SAM system existed only on paper at Diehl in Germany. Now Ukraine has 12 of these and 12 more on the way. The British have just supplied a new portable SAM system.

But there are systems where munitions and supply are a concern. Bradley’s will be supplanted by other IFVS but they remain important and parts will be a concern. Same with HIMARS. There are alternatives such as the Korean K239 Chunmoo which will actually be manufactured in Europe under contract (Romania, Poland, Norway).

I am not downplaying in any way the contribution of America which has been hugely significant to this date. But 2025 was always the year the transitions away from America were orienting and that will continue. Although reluctantly Ukraine and NATO will be better for it.

In the Unites States, congress controls funding, not the President.

Every Ukraine package has passed with overwhelming support from both parties, and in all but one case with enough votes to override a presidential veto.

Trump’s plan to end the war? Place a halt on all aid to Ukraine and cheer Putin on from Mar A Sleazy…

    10. SlummiPorvari on

Okay, here’s a plan. Reverse engineer all the weapons and start ordering _parts_ from everywhere.

What’s the worst that can happen? US companies can’t stop selling weapons any more, they already did it. 😀

They might have to survive off European weapons, unfortunately, since our (USA) president is an evil bastard.
