Gentle reminder that in the post-USSR it was (and at least in Russia still is) called the Great Patriotic War, June 22, 1941 – May 9, 1945. First date, because to count it from 1939 is a big no-no since the USSR along with Nazi Germany participated in the division of Europe. So here it is, the day bombings of Kyiv by Nazi Germany started, an act of great betrayal by an ally. Second, because with the USSR-centric point of view (still predominant in Russia) the fact that WWII still goes on was probably not so relevant.
