That’s a dream number for any democracy. Well done Germany.

This is still frightening, that 20% of Germans voted for literal Nazis. At this rate, Germany will be back on a very dark path by 2030.

.. can we please get rid of the solidarity fund towards east germany completely .. seems most of these people don´t want a democracy anymore .. i would say stop it now ..

Here is my take on the results.

Very positive: extremely high voter turnout of 84%, the highest since German reunification. Regardless of the election result, really proud of my compatriots. This is a healthy democracy!

Positive: Putin’s fifth column BSW and Lindner-FDP could not make the 5% threshold, AfD below 20% depending on the prognosis, even if every per cent for that party is one too many.

Negative: the risk of another three-party coalition government, even if with different parties involved. Hope it won’t happen.

Congrats on such high turnout! It reminds me of Polish elections in 2023 where 73% people went to vote. And for Poland 50% is average

It is a positive result in that despite the timing this election was taken very seriously and we saw a record turnout (since 90s) for an irregularly timed election.

Obviously not happy about the AfD results, but we do not see that the US or Elon meddling had any meaningful impact on their success, preliminary result is even lower than alot of polls expected. Not great, not as horrible as possible.

BSW is at 4.7% is looking to not be in so at least only AfD as a destructive force in parliament.

FDP will be the linchpin as they are teetering at the edge to pass or fail to enter the parliament. If they do they will make the coalition formation more difficult, if they fail a grand coalition looks likely.
Otherwise Kenya (CDU, SPD, Greens), but more likely a Deutschlandkoalition (CDU black, SPD red and FDP yellow)

Can confirm. Usually I stay away from elections because I don’t want to take part in this battle of oligarchs. But since the USA gifted me with an Oligarch that I hate with a passion, you could count me in.

Congratulations Germans. Let’s hope for a good outcome.

By the way, what was the turnout in the US election? Like about 66% if I recall, right?

I saw so many people in the streets today on their way to the voting booth. Usually Sundays are very quiet in my neighbourhood so that was a pleasant surprise!

That’s a fantastic turnout. Hope the German people voted to stand up to Putin and Trump and for European defense and prosperity!

    12. Would I have preferred the AFD to not get 20% of the vote? Yes

Do I think this is a bad result for the party, considering Musk’s meddling, the terrorist attacks and the bad economy? Also yes

It is below the dreaded 25% and proves most of Germany still doesn’t like the far right (hopefully the same will happen with the BSW). Now we will see if the next coalition will offer the germans the answers they are looking for

      LFG GERMANY!
History of the moment is casting the next 2 generations.

Can you believe that Ireland just went through as pivotal a vote (for their own nation) and the turn out was 59%, the lowest it’s been for decades!

Donald Trump will go on Twitter and call the results into question, and calling Merz a dictator in 3… 2… 1…

Are the results good for Europe or good for Russia? I can’t tell since I’m not German but I’ve never been more interested in the outcome of a foreign election before.

Big win for democracy in Germany and Europe. Vielen dank, deutsches Volk.
