Lui è "Molto entusiasta di vedere come ci avviciniamo al vertice della NATO alla fine di giugno, se parleremo ancora della NATO nella sua forma attuale." L’Europa deve stabilire una capacità di difesa indipendente molto più rapidamente, ha affermato Merz: "Questa è una priorità assoluta per me."

In the war of 1775-1783 the impossible was done to prevent the Independence of the United States. Now the United States will prevent it.
This is an important message. I want to say I feel so lucky I live in Europe and I am in an European Union country and NATO Country.
We have the potential of being independent in all areas from US and we must stand together and we must absolutely reject Trump/Musk with their extreme rights views, they want us to be dependent on them and they complain we have too many labor rights that protect workers from corporate abuse…..which Musk seems to try to promote that employers to have total power over employees.
If France and Germany align within the EU on a topic such as defence, interesting things can happen. “Welcome to Gaullism, Germany”.
Yet none of his agenda 2030 proposals give him a budget to change a thing. He wants to hand out 100bn he don’t have and with debt brake applied. He says the right words, but I am really curious what magic trick he wants to pull to make it happen.
The way he said it in the so called “Elefantenrunde” (meeting of all party leaders after the election) was truly remarkable, especially for a CDU politician, knowing the old transatlantic tradition of the party.
Also remarkable was how he attacked Elon Musk and co. for their interference in the German elections and actually compared it to Russian interference, which he believed to be of the same quality (or lack thereof) and quantity.
Remarkable, Herr Merz. I hope actions now follow those words, for the sake of Europe. I always thought that the ‘nasty streak’ of yours could be to the advantage of Germany and Europe in these difficult times. We need leaders who are not afraid of confrontation and speaking truth to power.
You may not be the most popular politician on Reddit, but you may turn out to be a good chancellor. Time will tell.
I’m so happy Germany is talking like this. Five years ago they would have been insisting on bending over for Trump to not shake up the status quo too much.
History will remember Trump as The Founding Father of the United Europe
Previous CDU policy was full dependance on both US and Russia so I hope he isn’t planning to drop just one of these.
