>Peace support within an international context is one of the three tasks of the Swiss Armed Forces.
>This mission is laid down in the Swiss Federal Constitution and the Swiss Military Act. Apart from peace support, the three tasks of the Swiss Armed Forces include defence and subsidiary support of the civilian authorities. Although Switzerland is not a member of the NATO alliance, the Swiss Armed Forces are participating with SWISSCOY (acronym for Swiss Company) in the international peace support mission of the Kosovo Force (KFOR) in Kosovo.
>The Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission for the Korean Armistice (NNSC) is the Swiss Armed Forces’ oldest peacekeeping mission. As early as 1953, the Federal Council decided to send around 150 members of the armed forces to Korea. Today, five Swiss officers and five Swedish officers are deployed in this mission and are stationed in Panmunjom immediately south of the demarcation line.
Switzerland is involved in this worldwide with peacekeeping troops, which I think is absolutely right. Two good friends of mine served in Kosovo. The pay is pretty good, the Enrolment conditions are not easy. Apart from the missions with NATO/EU, it is the only opportunity for our army to acquire knowledge outside Switzerland, which I personally find most valuable.
And Switzerland is making its presence felt, which is not insignificant.
