      I wouldn’t call VG conservative leaning. It’s the largest newspaper in Norway and is pretty much as middle of the road as you get here.

      I’m in Norway and at my work there is around 30 people and not even one person that would support Trump or trust USA now, so i think it may be accurate.

      Conservative in Norway would be far-left in USA. Norway is top 5 most left wing countries on the globe.

      I don’t think that’s out of line with what you’d get in any other country in Europe where people are paying attention to what’s going on. I’m sure the Canadians feel quite similar.

      I also think it’s a major error to define “conservative” in a European context as being even remotely close to the GOP/MAGA style thinking – that would be considered ultra-right/extreme right and doesn’t even exist in many countries or is on the political fringes / bubbles on X.

      A lot of European conservatives would consider the current GOP to be a bunch of nutters – conspiracy theorists, religious fundamentalists, ultra-nationalists, fascists etc all in the mix.

      VG’s also just a broad centrist paper without any particularly definition of leaning. The major media in a lot of smaller European countries tends not to be extremely polarised – you get a little bit of a tinge of a lean towards more establishment / less establishment but that’s about it. Quite a lot of the national papers are just generally middle of the road / neutral ish. It’s for two reasons: The press is just not as polarised but also there isn’t as much scope to become very polarised as the market’s much smaller.

      If you wanted to calibrate your politicometer for a typical ‘conservative’ in most of Western and Northern Europe at least, in a US context Hillary Clinton would probably be fairly at home in a lot of European centre right parties, and actually probably a bit to the right of some of them on many issues. The likes of MAGA certainly wouldn’t be described as ‘conservatives’ in the usual sense.

      Same for all of Europe and the UK now I would think. Abandon any ties with, or hopes for, the US for the forseeable future.

      I mean, you have to assume if you get invaded by Russia that instead of honouring the NATO allience there is at least a chance Trump will make a deal for your country’s mineral rights.

      It’s not great.

      I live in the US and I can guarantee that you cannot trust Donald Trump’s USA.

      No, Norway cannot trust the US. No one can. The smartest thing Europe and any other ally country can do is cut all trade, military and diplomatic ties with the US. Don’t share information with the US, kick the military bases out of your countries and turn the US into a completely isolated pariah state until the issue with Trump and the MAGA is settled.

      By that I mean you have to wait till Trump dies, MAGA falls apart, the GOP is eliminated as a party and, hopefully, the US gets their collective heads out of their asses and realizes when a guy is a criminal, DON’T FUCKING ELECT HIM TO OFFICE!
