Technically there is some court ruling that says they’re not allowed to charge you without your explicit consent. You can try never responding.

This doesn’t prevent them from closing your account, of course.

They will likely try to push you a few more times to sign, and then terminate the contract.

Honestly, just switch to C24. There’s no reason to pay for mediocre service.

    3. The letter is saying that they can’t start charging you the monthly fee without your agreement.

The implied threat is that they will cancel your account if you don’t agree.

Basically, this is how banks have to do their price increases now – they aren’t allowed to just unilaterally raise prices anymore.

Most likely if you don’t react they will send more letters. After some time they will decide if they terminate your account or if they just keep you. This may depend on how important you are to them as a customer. If you only cost money, then the probability that they will terminate the account is high. If you have lots of money just lying around on the account without receiving interest then they might decide to keep you. I don’t know.

If they terminate the account, they will need to send you a message telling you the account will be terminated, and there will be a certain notice period. I would think that the notice period for termination is probably at least 4 weeks, possibly even 3 months. It is probably written somewhere in the Commerzbank AGB.

If you want to not pay 4,90 / month and also not risk having your account terminated, you should try to get an account somewhere else. For example ING is still free if you get wages of at least 1.000 Euro monthly on the account. They charge for a debit card though, I think it is 1,50 per month.

I’ve seen such posts already circulating. Should i also expect this? Currently my plan is free as long as i receive certain amount of money monthly.

Next time you can ask ChatGPT to explain in your language what some letter is about. Just copy text with Google translate’s camera and paste it into ChatGPT

I received the same letter. I’m just going to move my accounts else where, it’s not like commerzbank have been outstanding to be with, more like just competent enough that I haven’t bothered switching.

I only opened the account because they had branches next to my home and my job but they’ve since closed all but one location that’s not near either so the convenience isn’t even there anymore.
