I am from the United States and my great-grandmother is from Slovakia. This photograph is of her and others who came directly from Slovakia before 1918. I asked for help from a Slovak friend of mine, but she cannot identify this (a possible Eastern Slovak dialect).

There is a town called Pozdišovce in the eastern part of the country. In Slovak, “Pozdišovské ženy” would mean “women from Pozdišovce”, maybe this inscription is some variation of this? Maybe if there is a Ruthenian (Rusyn) influence or something. Or maybe it’s just a coincidence.

I don’t know what “pozcisov” is. Quick search didn’t yield any place. But “Zeni” means women (misspelled as it should be zeny). Judging by the plural in “pozcisovski” it could possibly be Rusyn and not Slovak (slovak uses ‘e’ ending for feminine plural).

      Rough translation: Women from “Pozcisov”

Edit: Women from Pozdisovce (yeah makes sense)
