“My underwear being shown in court and my SATU examination report being read out was another out of body experience”. Talk about hurting the victim even more

    2. Obviously rape if he assaulted her while she was passed out, and didn’t stop when prompted.
The only reasonable use for making her underwear a discussion during the trial would be the defends trying to intimidate the victim.

The only part that is ridiculous here is the attempt to make it sound like he forced her to drink the alcohol:

“He said the landlord was replenishing her glass with brandy without asking her.”

This is why so many women don’t bother bring their case to court. When I reported my experience with SA at a work party to the guards (and detectives), they couldn’t have been more empathetic and kind.

However, the courts are absolutely vicious to survivors – they’re allowed to read out notes from counselling sessions, and show your clothes and underwear to the jury, just like what happened to this woman.

If we want women (and anyone who gets sexually assaulted for that matter) to report rape, the court system needs to change.

*”In the trial, the defence lawyer told the jury: “You have to look at the way she was dressed. She was wearing a thong with a lace front.”*

*The 27-year-old man was found not guilty of rape shortly afterwards.”*

Rape culture & victim blaming still alive & well in Ireland.
