First, cancel the order of F35s. Germany only ordered them for continued access to American nukes stationed in Germany, as the US refused to certify Eurofighters for the job and the old Tornado fleet of aircraft that had done the job so far was ageing.

The US is utterly unreliable now and nobody even knows how long both nukes and US troops are going to remain stationed in Europe anyway. In this context, spending enormous sums of money, both for the hardware and maintenance, for combat aircraft that can essentially be made useless by the US, as they need a constant connection to Lockheed Martin’s servers in the US for the “advanced” functions, is pure stupidity. Times have changed and Germany’s procurement should reflect that. It would also send a very clear message over the Atlantic.

Second, Germany and Europe have so many defence companies with cutting edge military hard- and software themselves, it’s not just money well invested, but also to the benefit of Germany’s economy (and the wider European economy) that has been struggling lately. Every single cent of the new budget that is being mentioned in the press (€200bn) should be invested in Germany and Europe. Create jobs, invest in R&D that also adds value through civilian use, DON’T spend tens of billions ever year to prop up Texas, Florida and other US states massively benefitting from Europe’s chequebook every year.

Let’s make the European military-industrial complex great again. America can keep their overpriced stuff, let’s do everything ourselves.

I reckon American arms sales will be fine, Trump is trying to trade with Russia so those arms will likely be used against Ukraine.

As an American, i can confirm the US is just a shithole 3rd world country masquerading as a 1st world country because it has guns. Take the guns away and it is nothing

    5. Europe should spend its money on EU arms companies. Spending on American arms needs to be a last resort.

This is a golden opportunatey for for UK and European manufacturing companies to fill the gap left by the US, who have made themselves untrustworthy partners.

There’s a lot of business to be won.

USA is going to start only selling their equipment to Russia, China, North Korea and other authoritarian states. Lucky for them nobody wants the gear from the traditional supplier or tyranny Russia anymore.

Putin managed to breakup NATO !!!! A new strong military alliance in Europe and proxies is urgently need it. If you think Europe feels lonely ,think again how Australians feel like, isolated at the bottom of the world.

Cancelling existing orders would only inflame the situation even more. For better or for worse, those deals have to go through.

New order though… Aside from stealth aircraft and missile defense there´s not much we need the US for. That need must also be balanced against the small problem that hardware could simply be bricked. Gives me BSG vibes and not in a good way.

And some simple kit like the Chinooks is probably a fairly safe buy. Iran still flies its nearly half a century old F-14’s. Keeping a bunch of simple choppers flying shouldn´t be a problem.

I can’t believe we’re in the timeline where Germany could remilitarize because of a fascist America.

Sounds like something Henry Turtledove would write.

Just a friendly reminder that 80% of all sales from US arms manufacturers go to the US government. 10% of total sales go to Europe.

So, could Europe cripple the US arms industry? No. But You all could make some shareholders quite annoyed with Trump.

BEA Systems and Rheinmetall stonks gonna go through the roof 🙂

Need to remove all US troops from Germany ASAP! Hit Trump where it really hurts.

      1. Stop buying US arms.

      2. Remove the USA from NATO.

      3. Shut down all USA military bases in Europe and send all US troops back to the USA.

Nations unfortunately also have to understand that Israel is just a continued arm of the US. Israel alone is not capable of producing and providing their weapons in such amounts, without the active support of the US. While designs might be from them, materials and production are heavily depending on the US.

Never thought I’d live to see the world being happy about German rearmament

Germany and the EU should not be held captive by a country that is willing to to play politics with the defense.

    18. aieeevampire on

The biggest substitution problem will be advanced aircraft

Germany already makes the best family of armored vehicles and artillery, small arms anyone can do well, between Germany, the UK and France there is quite a bit of naval design and production capability.

Nobody should buy F-35s unless they are comfortable with the concept of the US being able to brick them with a button press. Same goes for most of their gear.

These headlines do crazy things to me. I hate Nazi’s, but love me some German rearmament, especially if it goes against Nazi’s. Confusing hé.
