Ciao,

    https://cns.public.lu/en/assure/droits-damarches/protection-sociele-etranger/soins-programmes-etranger.html

    Grazie

I don’t even remember the CNS paying anything at all for Lasik. Isn’t this only done by the CMCM and private insurance?

With all the follow-up examinations, I would really think twice about having it done in a non-EU country.

I also don’t really understand what the CNS could „refuse“ if you want to have cosmetic surgery?

You will neither get sick leave nor an approval by CNS. As they don’t recognise it as a medical necessity. The approval is only for operations or medical treatment they can and want to reimburse.

As Lasik is not recognised as a necessary medical treatment.

There is a strong chance the CNS will not cover this procedure as they will view it as “you can have this done in Luxembourg”. If you have a family doctor or eye doctor, it’s worth asking them for their opinion.

CNS does not cover lasik. I got mine done last year and I paid it in full. Some private health insurances cover it.

You are probably unable to work for less than one day, so that’s what you can claim as sick leave, and if you provide a certificate. For the travel time, the CNS won’t consider it as sick. You can however ask your employer for unpaid leave

I really doubt that lasik is reimbursed. It’s not critical care procedure. If you do something like catarcte/glaucome – maybe, but juste improve your eyesight is highly unlikely

I can confirm to you based on experience that CNS does not cover lasik surgery performed in Luxembourg.

So you can forget about CNS covering the same surgery outside EU
