      ***According to the most recent Gallup poll, Trump is the least popular president in more than 70 years.***

      Gallup continues: “Bill Clinton has the next lowest mid-February rating for a newly inaugurated president ‒ which, at 51%, is six points higher than where Trump is now. John Kennedy (72%) and Jimmy Carter (71%) were the highest rated at this point in their presidencies.”

      Ouch!

      Six percentage points below Clinton puts Trump’s approval rating at – wait for it – 45%.

      **Elon Musk’s approval rating is even worse**

      Only 34% approve of what Musk is doing in his non-elected job. Only 26% are OK with him shutting down government programs he thinks are unnecessary.

      And a whopping 63% don’t like Musk’s marauders gaining access to federal government databases containing Social Security, Medicare and tax information.

      “Trump’s job approval rating is 15 points below the historical average for all other elected presidents in mid-February since 1953.” is a less clickbaity title than the one of the article. And at least it is not lying.

      According to 538, Trump has higher approval than Biden had at the end of his term (48% vs 37%; net +0.6% vs net -20%). And Biden had a lower approval rating than Trump currently has since mid 2021.

      Also, this has nothing to do with Europe.

      Opinion polling like this started post WW2 as FDR became an authoritarian leader and media was controlled during his presidency. With Kennedy you already had opinion polls on everything and Vietnam war was different from WW2 as now you could oppose it without sounding like a Nazi. Polling became very popular. Trump is the least liked president post WW2 in February. But you had a bunch of hated presidents like Bush 2, and Nixon in his last few months. All 3 had 2 terms anyhow because … Americans. Nixon staged a break-in at Watergate and got reelected right after. I think the same people who hate Trump would have hated Andrew Johnson and probably have lectured him about his slave ownership on top of that.

      1. The headline and the beginning of the article are disingenuous. They are referring specifically to Trumps *job* approval.
      2. These ratings need to be taken across longer periods of time otherwise they do not indicate much hence why this article is in the opinion section.
      3. You could take data like this and compare against past presidents and make a case for lots of them who have been some variation of “least popular”
      4. It’s better to look at polling which gathers from multiple sources such as [https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/approval/donald-trump/](https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/approval/donald-trump/)

      Whether you like Trump, or despise him, he is pretty consistent in his general popularity rating.

      He’s actually still popular among conservatives, but for all the wrong reasons. I think regular Americans are going to get a hard wake up call once his tariffs kick in and start affecting the economy, the workforce and everyday life.

      Well, his Trump for Gaza video was pretty fun. Elon Musk eating hummus, Trump feeling up naked stripper, bearded belly dancers and Trump tower with golden Trump statue. I guess it contributed his popularity.
