Until we can significantly reduce the amount of gas we’re using, and start producing biogas, we’re exposed to the international gas market and there’s nothing we can do about that.

The feckers. Everyone will match this.
Grid charges are part of this btw.
Time for an extra energy credit!

Meanwhile electricity prices across Europe and going down
Dont forget, SSE prides itself on its electricity coming from renewal sources. So why is the price going up?
No doubt this has given the rest of them the perfect excuse to increase their prices too.
I’m on a pretty decent a fixed rate til August thankfully, at least I’ve got another few months before I need to worry about finding the least-shit deal on the market!

I refuse to believe there was actually a point when a full-time job in a supermarket would have provided enough stability for someone to rent/eventually buy a half-decent property, drive a nice car, pay the bills and still have dosh left over for luxuries of their choice. I really resent being Gen Z sometimes

I got a similar letter from flogas today, all convulated language of course but indirectly telling me I’m in for as much as 23% hike based on EAB consumption. I regularly jump to another provider, even mid contract as the €50 breakage fee is small change to what I’ll save by switching

Lots to look forward to in 2025. It’s still only February.

With the new connector to France, will that mean new suppliers will come on the market?

Our government urgently needs to reform the state-owned ESB into a non-profit with the aim of reducing prices for all.
Currently, they are forced to charge 10% above market prices, in order to make the Irish energy market profitable enough for private companies to enter it. Effectively, this is government-mandated profiteering which increases prices for all of us.
If we had a non-profit ESB competing in the market, it would face democratic and market accountability and competition, and would undercut the profit-driven private companies, forcing them to lower prices and take in less profit.

The background to this is huge continuing rises in gas prices.
The last year : [for example](https://www.ice.com/products/27996665/Dutch-TTF-Natural-Gas-Futures/data?marketId=5863238&span=2)
