Arabs are used to the different Arabic dialects + the standard, and possibly other European languages that Maltese has borrowed words from.
The Maltese, for the most part, have never studied Arabic and have never had anything to do with it. So they’re less likely to understand anything other than some very basic conversation.
I have Arabic speaking friends and if they speak slowly and clearly I can make out some words and phrases and sometimes get the jist of some sentences.
But if they’re speaking at a normal speed between them no chance.
No. They don’t understand us either. They pretend to.
They can understand, we can only understand numbers
