It is because we are one of the rare countries who understands that if fascist russia wins in Ukraine, it would be horrible for not just Ukraine, but also our country, and Europe, and the civilised world as a whole.
It’s not that we have donated much, it’s that others have donated too little.
Pretty much all security threats we have are coming from one country to the east and best way to mitigate those threats is to support Ukraine in any way we can, because right now they’re fighting not just for themselves, but us too
If every sane Western country would’ve donated at least some measily 1.5% for this cause, the war would’ve taken very different path.
Either way, investing money in defense of Ukraine is less costly than us doing the fighting ourselves, so no complaints from me.
It is not money. These are goods, services, military equipment and so on. Some of that is already paid for, some is produced in Latvia. Probably most of this aid could not be sold elsewhere for that amount of money.
