according to the manual (page 24), the lights mean that the door is locked and cannot be opened. So you are correct with your assumption

The symbol with the plug mean it is drawing a medium amount of power. So I guess it is in some kind of program that needs to be stopped before the door is unlocked.
two ways:
rotate the program knob to the off position and then to the position of any program
or
open the small hatch at the bottom and pull und the emergency release
