Lovely goldfinches. Something I learned by accident a year or two ago – plant some cornflowers. When the flowers start to die off, dont get rid of them, leave them. The goldfinches will come in flocks to eat the seeds, it’s fascinating watching them balance on the skinny little stems.

Goldfinch, if you want to attract them to your garden they love nyjer seeds and sunflower hearts. Btw having fatballs in plastic netting is a bit old school. There is a risk of the small birds getting tangled up in the netting and swiped by predators.

I wouldn’t use them kind of nets , they’re dangerous as their legs can get wrapped up in them .

Goldfinch and to echo some comments here, please try and avoid using nets like this, feeders are cheap.

Please use a feeder instead of the nets.

I don’t remember seeing goldfinches in the 80s or 90s in city gardens. Now they are very commonplace. I don’t know if their population has increased or they’ve moved to more urban settings from the country. Anyway beautiful birds, and I’m glad to see them. Woodpeckers starting to move into my area now. I’ve seen one. That’s all. And I’m always watching!
