Increasing value of your home increases tax based on value of your home, how shocking.
If the government feels that’s a “blow” then the government can change the rules. They’re the government.
Is there a minimum size for these? I have a office in my garden, I could convert it to a studio
I wouldn’t think they would increase the value of a house very much.
And even if it did, happen to move a house into the next property tax bracket, it’s not a huge amount between one bracket and the next.
With the amount they’ll be making in rent I’d say they’ll be ok
It’s not really a “blow” now is it, most people if they’re gonna do it will easily make the extra few hundred in property tax back in a single month with any rental income
Property tax is fuck all in Ireland
Not really a blow to the plan though is it? It’s a logical consequence of any significant works to a property.
Is potentially paying an extra €90 a year going to be the deciding factor considering the cabin is likely to cost €30k+ ?
What are we talking about, an extra €90 or €180 per year if you happen to jump up one or two LPT bands?
As if home owners are currently “valuing” their properties accurately anyway (and as if Revenue are checking every single dwelling for adequate support).
Give me a break with this gotcha stuff.
I mean, obviously? Such a stupid story
Independent trying to make something out of nothing, as per usual.

Wow, who would have thought increasing the value of your home would increase the property tax?
