      And no, that money is not all going to Ukraine, but every penny spent on defense can only help Ukraine

      That’s more than 10 times the entire GDP of my country, Lithuania. I only *wish* we could invest like this in our security.

      That said it is absolutely wonderful to see European countries waking up and binding together.

      I am worried that before long Trump and our US friends will stop complaining that Europe is not investing enough in defense and will start complaining about European militarism.

      though i do need to mention that during the whole last governmental period all the way to the election of the new one (he was in the opposition) he was constantly bashing the green party (strongest supporter of ukraine btw) for the same thing he himself wants to do now.
      What he is doing is great and absolutely necessary.
      But it is funny because Robert Habeck (green) wanted to make all this happen waaaaay before and Merz’s party (CDU) was constantly voting against these things.

      that being said: Glad it is finally happening

      I hope that includes conscription and wartime army size increase of at least 3x.

      It’s a good step. We are finally seeing numbers that can make an impact floated on the EU and national level.

      This is an opportunity for Europe and the investments will pay off. Manyfold if they can lead to good peace deal in Ukraine.

      Crazy thing is, Europe isn’t simply rearming against Russia, that’s just an added benefit, it’s rearming against the US. We’ll now have to compete with the US when it comes to power projection and influence instead of cooperating.
