Ireland, the land of zero enforcement. Sure it’ll be grand.
Time to bring UK debt collections teams to Ireland.
It’s too basic a system. When a fine doesn’t get paid the courts issue a warrant and the Gardaí lodge the person in prison for a few hours and the fine is wiped. What’s the point in paying if you can build up loads of fines and then hand yourself in for a night in prison and get a fresh start? Let Gardaí seize assets as an enforcement mechanism and you might see some more people willing to pay.
Write off the debt and evict them.
Simples.
