      # Groundbreaking Ruling for LGBT+ People—Initiated by Zbigniew Ziobro

The Supreme Court has ruled on legal gender recognition, a case initiated by former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro. Under the new decision, transgender individuals in Poland no longer have to sue their own parents to have their gender legally recognized. However, activists stress that many challenges remain.

The case reached the Supreme Court at the request of Ziobro, who sought a ruling on whether children and spouses should be involved in the legal process if a transgender person was married or had kids. The court acknowledged that public awareness of transgender issues has evolved significantly over the past decades and stated that this ruling should serve as a temporary measure until a dedicated law is introduced.

From now on, legal gender recognition cases will no longer require suing parents. Instead, the process will follow a non-litigious procedure initiated by the transgender individual.

LGBT+ advocacy group Miłość Nie Wyklucza (Love Does Not Exclude) hailed the ruling as a step in the right direction but emphasized that it is only a small victory in the broader fight for dignity and rights. They highlight that the ruling does not address the needs of non-binary individuals, fails to separate identity from medical requirements, and still places the final decision in the hands of judges rather than transgender people themselves.

Polish Ex Justice Minister under PIS government wanted to implement where spouses and kids of trans person would need to also be involved in process of changing sex in documents. It was decided, by neo-KRS (Unlawfully picked judges under PIS rule, they are not recognised by EU institutions) that not only this would not happen, but suing process would not be necessary.

Honestly, there’s nothing sensational about it. What was sensational was that a free adult had to sue his parents to get the opportunity to have medical changes.

I’m also not writing this as an LGBT+ advocate, because **personally for me**, such persons don’t fit into any of the categories that are mentioned in the documents…

Shocking because it was for some reason initiated by one of the biggest ultra conservative figures in our mainstream politics

Imagine being less progressive on gender issues than MF Poland.

Is changing your name still going to require you to sue your parents? I knew someone who isn’t trans but changed their name and had to sue their parents even though they were over 18

Conservatives will go on and on about how its normal for the governemnt to force kids to sue their parents to *checks notes* like their own name

Anyway, congrats to Poland for being sane after the last government 🙂

Why did they require the person to sue their parents?

Was it like the UK’s GRC rules of significant others being able to Veto (until divorce) a legal gender change?

Well, well, well, who had seen it coming?

      Meanwhile, in the US…

Great decision. Forcing people to sue their parents is just cruel and doesn’t make any sense as parents don’t choose the gender of their kids. Nothing makes me happier than far-right politicians when they try to complicate someone’s life but things go completely bad (for them, of course)

Can people change it to stapler as well? We can’t forget about those that believe that they are staplers.
