Is there even a legal mechanism for this to happen?

I don’t know if Orban still represents most Hungarians. Why punish Hungarian people for their leader. I would say first wait for Hungarian elections. If Orban gets re-elected, yes, the membership could come on the table.
I agree, the supposed corruption, hollowing out democracy and institutions under Orban more and more irritate me, and is against EU rules, which states only working democracies can join.
April 2026 are Hungarian elections. Ask me, and EU-membership is on the ballot.
The fact the EU is not working towards agreement by all 27 members for Ukranian help, but instead creates a coalition of the willing to continue/upgrade support for Ukraine, the other 25 (can’t remember which one Slovenia/Slowakia is also not in line) memberstates found a workaround for these countries is a good thing.
I believe in Europe, 25 other countries do as well.

Guys, what if Hungary joins Russia officially, this won’t be good either. Are we sure we just cannot remove Erdogan democratically before ?

Definitely not. I mean article 7 maybe, but this goes against every basis of the union. Please remove this post

To suspend the membership seems quite harsh. I know a lot of Hungarians that do not support the veiws and policies of Orban. They are suffering enough as it is because of his decisions.
But to cancel their vote would be quite ok.

Lmao I don’t know wtf you are smoking but there is no explicit procedure in the EU treaties that allows for the forced expulsion of a member state. Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union (TEU) does allow for sanctions to be imposed on a member state, such as suspending voting rights, but not for expelling a country from the EU, or what ever you are trying?

This would probably be the end for the EU. Countries voting to leave, countries getting voted out.

The very last counterweight to Orbán’s rule is our EU membership. By removing that he will become an absolute dictator. It would be a very dangerous example that inside the EU you can build your own dictatorship using funds embezzled from other member states and the “punishment” for these actions is simply gifting the country to the same dictator that destroyed it. Many will take notes.
A better course of action would be to suspend voting rights. That way we could not veto the common causes.
If you really want to make a difference, check out the [results](https://vtr.valasztas.hu/ogy2022) from the 2022 elections, choose a random district, where the fidesz candidate won (“FIDESZ-KDNP”), choose a random village, a random street on google maps and write a short letter to the random Hungarian citizen living there! You can translate your letter to Hungarian with Deepl, do not assume that a random citizen will understand anything else, only 20% of Hungarians speak a foreign language. Explain to them why you are writing and that fidesz is destroying the country!
We are a 9.5 million nation in a 500 million superstate, even a loose campaign of letters could saturate the population, and turn public opinion.

As a Hungarian I support this. My country is a russian satellite state again and wants to weaken the EU to make things easier for pootin. Ffs, kick us out!

EU deserves Hungary. Every international organisation that Hungary is a part of, offered Hungary much more than it was worth. Orban does whatever the fuck he wants since always, and the consequences was always almost 0. This kind of behaivour was supporting Orban’s bullshit. Instead of focusing on Hungary, EU was busy closing coal mines in Poland and treating Romanians worse than Afghan immigrants. ( Once an Afghan was getting the refugee status, he was free to roam the Schengen space ). Bottom line, nothing will happen, and Orban’s Hungary is just the tip of the iceberg.
