If it was, why did they empty the the bases along the Finnish border of personell and equipment?

    2. ..the fact that it started way before any NATO dreams might be considered somewhat of a hint…

Ruzzia will always switch to any perspective that is the most politically convenient.

The reasons don’t matter. Ruzzia invaded and started killing Ukrainians. Those are the facts.

      Note the weasel-speak, “not necessarily”.

NATO has something to do with it, insofar as closeness to NATO is inversely proportional to invadability, which is a prime driver of Russia actually trying.
In consequence every action distancing Ukraine from NATO acted as reinforcement of Russia’s decision to invade, essentially provoking Russia to do it.

I think it was in part, because Putin’s regime can not survive with Ukraine in NATO. They would lose their influence over Ukraine, significantly hurt his “strong man” image if the crown jewel of the Soviet Union suddenly becomes fully aligned with the west.

Not to mention, NATO comes with clear requirements. Anti-corruption processes, Communication requirements (English becoming a more important language in the military and the society), a bottom-up approach with NCO’s in the military rather than a hierarchical structure where if you, Russia, own a couple of commanders you can control a significant part of the military.

Not to mention – Ukraine in NATO is safe for investments. A growing economy in a large country right on the border of Russia? Democratic and thriving? Western companies coming in and providing opportunities while just across the border people haven’t even got indoor plumbing? It would destroy the Putin regime.

edit; to clarify, obviously now Ukraine is aligned with the west and they have taken significant steps to reform the military & tackle internal corruption. In my perspective, Putin is already fucked, it’s just taking a little while for Russia to catch up on it. This war will end with a free and independent Ukraine and over time it will play out as above – with other countries (Belarus, Moldova, Georgia & eventually regions of Russia) seeing that Russia is hell and breaking up with Putin is the only way for societies to thrive and prosper.

Oh really? Then NATO can now approve Ukraine membership.

Its about gaining a monopoly of rare earth minerals in both Ukraine and Russia to sell to the west

Along with this Russia controls most of the markets for fertilizer as well….they want to use these two things to extort whatever it can from the west

I can almost guarantee this is why the U.S. has done an about face on international politics….No more crops, No more Microchips, No more batteries unless you give us what we want is most likely what Russia told Trump behind closed doors

      Russian greed ruins nations

Of course it doesn’t. Russia wants to take over Belarus, not bothered about Poland being in NATO, wants to take over and split Ukraine, not bothered about NATO borders. It’s about destroying Ukraine because it refused to be its corrupted subject. It’s about the resources and also about controlling world’s food production.
And of course because Putin is a little man who wants to be great, just like Stalin. I say fuck them!

Stop legitimizing their bullshit excuses by posting articles like this. Of course it wasn’t but sharing articles like this spreads that potential narrative.

duh, it resulted in NATO expansion of two strong countries, one which is bordering russia.
