Find a protest in the nearest large city. I’m in the same boat and it helped me feel a little better to attend. I just wish it was more than a few hundred people. Protest is the best tool we have when democracy is in internal danger.

IMHO: The Russia-Ukraine war can’t be won by Ukraine. Russia & specifically Putin, will never allow a former Soviet satellite state, supported by the West, to defeat it. Plus they have a far larger population to pull from. Note that Russia hasn’t done a full mobilization yet. The best thing to do is not prolong the war for perhaps many more years, but work for peace.

You know what Ukrainians did when their bad president was worse then expected?
As an American who believes the words on the Statue of Liberty should be foundational cultural touchstones for us, I 100% understand. On the other hand, don’t let Trump and his horde of sycophants take it from you. You are right, and they are wrong. While the phrase un-American is used way too much nowadays, we should be able to recognize this for what it is. A conman from Queens has wormed his way into the Whitehouse again because the American electorate is exhausted from a 24-hour news cycle, unending culture wars and disenfranchised with a government that has failed to protect their access to basic services such as housing and healthcare for years. This conman, devoid of any decency or principles beyond his own self-edification, is almost certainly a Manchurian candidate who is falling over himself to ravenously suck Vladimir Putin’s cock with as must gusto as he can muster. Our shame may even be Putin’s goal, it erodes our conviction.
We’ve been dealing with this asshole for years now. The entire world knows who he is but unless you’re wearing a red hat and voted for him in the election, you are not responsible for this. It’s heartbreaking for this country and this world. I felt shame on the first go around and it didn’t help anything. I’m with the other folks on here, don’t feel shame, feel anger and let’s use it to do *something*.
Telling Reddit that you’re embarrassed is one thing, thank you for posting. However, what are you going to do about it is A whole bunch of different things. Write a letter to your Congressman, or sponsor a Ukrainian family.

What average people must realise in terms of grand geopolitics, is that an unstable continental Europe is good for the elites in US (whose naval superiority position is similar to UK in the 18th century). It’s like repeating the history of how the Roman gradually displaced the Greek, or the sack of Constantinople by Venice-funded Crusaders paving way for Ottoman to take over, and not to mention all those famous Central European wars and partitions in the last three centuries. Ideology is just the sugarcoat of money and geopolitics. After the sugarcoat is gone, the reality will soon kick in. So just prepare for the worst because history always repeats itself.
I’ll set aside my questions about how you made it through the first Trump presidency un-embarrassed and just say “welcome aboard.”

(American here too) I feel the same. Trump seems to be an agent for, colluding with, or beholden to Putin. I don’t know how else to describe his bowing to Putin as if Putin were his king.
Europe: All I can say is that you are Ukraine’s last hope. The US has fallen to an evil force. Please give Ukraine what it needs to crush Putin.

How about instead signing up as a volunteer online English tutor for a Ukrainian on ENGin or starting to donate regularly to United24?
At the very least, turn the shame into something constructive for the Ukrainians, however small it may seem.
