There has been a lot of back-and-forth from various officials and politicians both past and present, journalists, lobbyists, social media pundits and independent commenters about how far our neutrality and non-military alignment goes.

there is a solution, a superbly obvious solution, put the matter of inserting a couple of paragraphs regarding neutrality or otherwise into the constitution in a free and fair public referendum. Lay out and debate absolutely everything, the potential impact on US relations et cetera et cetera.

By all means continue to expand the military but do so for our benefit not the European Union’s.

I’ve now the government is using the tried and tested method of saying that the EU is making us do it to deflect any criticism.

In my opinion, we should either be armed to the teeth or not have one at all what is the point in half arsing the miltary airforce and navy

It is not a myth obviously since it has been government policy for about a century, take the point but to a hammer everything looks like a nail (being respectful of his service to the country).

Surrounded by more armed nations we will always be relatively les toothed. But people miss that this was the whole point of why we wanted to be neutral in the first place.

“Retired Vice Admiral Mark Mellett also said Russia’s involvement in the 2021 cyberattack on the Health Service Executive is “undeniable.””

It is safe to assume given the scale and duration of the cyber attack that Irish citizens died because Russia attacked our health services.
