“Last August, the then housing minister sent the letter to Mr Martin, who was tánaiste at the time, Mr Harris, who was taoiseach, and former Green Party leader Eamon Ryan, outlining that Ireland was on track to see close to 40,000 new homes built.

The figure was used by Mr Harris and Mr Martin in the lead-up to the general election, with opposition parties now claiming they misled the public.

Speaking after he left the first UK-Ireland summit in Liverpool yesterday, Mr O’Brien said he had not apologised for the letter and did not think he needed to.

“No, I haven’t apologised for any letter. I’ve explained the context in which the projections were given,” he said.”

You don’t need to apologise. You need to stand down. Gross incompetence in the results he got.

Arrogant and incompetent. All too common traits in FFG these days. Although even amongst the inept, Darragh still manages to shine through.

He’s not wrong, because the electorate would vote the same way regardless. Our selfishness as a nation knows no bounds.

His forehead and haircut looks a bit like the outline of a home. Maybe it was counted when arriving at that total of 40,000

Can’t associate the two, At least a hut is a dwelling

He is so arrogant. Whoever keeps voting for him would want fo cop on.

Have you ever thought what a greedy tory landlord would look like during the famine? He is it personified. The hair cut, the way he talks, the suits and his stature

Sure didn’t Bertie mentor him? he truely learned from the best…

    10. I haven’t been keeping up with this story really, did he _know_ that the projections were wrong when he sent the letter? Or did they just not meet the projections?

They’re two different scenarios, he should absolutely apologize, if not resign for the former. If it was the latter then that’s a different story. Projections by their nature aren’t precise

I really wish we had more accountability on politicians. Such a crucial role and yet he doesn’t see any issue with misleading the public in the run up to a general election. Very low standard to hold yourself to

This useless, fat headed fuck is genuinely one of the luckiest people on the planet. Imagine having his job, doing such a monumentally shit job and still managing to not only keep it, but be able to come out with such blatant lies and get away with it?

When I think of the brown envelope brigade, this fucking clown is front and centre. A complete and utter disgrace to the country.

    13. KILLIGUN0224 on

Sadly he could even have said “Why would I need to apologise?… Since we went into coalition with FG, between the two of our parties we are guaranteed to return to office, so I don’t need to be accountable in any sort of way”.. and it wouldn’t even have any consequences if he did say that.

Martin trained him well – never admitting your mistakes is basically his core political belief

absolutely mad to run this whole article without any numbers of how many homes actually were built

He’s the spit of Alex Jones, and just as full of himself. More chins there than a Chinese Phonebook

Another sign of the absolute contempt the pricks in power have for the people of Ireland.

    18. PatMu5tard on

One of those politicians that boils my blood any time I see him on a debate show

    19. Satur9es on

The truth is barely an inconvenience to these pricks. And they are allowed spout their bullshit by a tamed media.

    20. pauli55555 on

In a world where everyone gets offended & outraged by everything – he’s absolutely correct.

People are allowed make mistakes, just move the fuck on. If people constantly had to apologise for every error we’d be here all day. And besides, no matter what he said, apologised or not, people will still just abuse him because they want to blame anyone but themselves for their own failings.

Yet people still vote this crowd in. Do we keep FFFG around gor the misery since the churches influence has lessened.
