Jesus that change after MUP introduction is very visible.

I’d bet you’d see the opposite trend for weed and coke consumption in the country

I would have expected a spike when Covid hit, not a dip.

A lot more people opting for weed. It’s the expense the hangovers and the effects on health. Generational. We stopped going to pubs and went to raves back in the 90s . An e and you were sorted for 4-6 hours for less than 20 quid.

I wonder how the numbers are determined. Total amount of alcohol sold in Ireland, divided by the number of inhabitants over 15? If so, at least part of it may be explained by moving from pubs to house parties, and the associated consumption of directly imported alcohol.

The explanation is simple. The price per unit would be a reverse of this graph.

People talking about weed and coke here but I think the big difference is that people straight up have less time to socialise and stay up all night. Full employment, social media scrolling, longer time spent in education and then demanding desk jobs where you’re constantly thinking means I am more likely to be drinking coffee in the mornings these days than pints in the evenings. Maybe I’ve gotten boring but I’ve really noticed the change myself over the years
Where’s the graph on coffee consumption haha!

litres of alcohol? so 100% alcohol? or ‘alcoholic drink’….

I work primarily with teens, the trend seems to be a focus on health and fitness. They dislike how alcohol makes them feel and impacts their health. There is a shift to more lenient / liberal parenting too so having a few drinks with your friends in your house is more containing than drinking a 6 pack unsupervised in a field or a park. Overall, most of the teens I work with see alcohol the same way my generation would have seen cigarettes.

Did they standardize this to liters of consumed ethanol? Or is it “units of alcohol” extrapolated out to a pint as an approximation, so that “10L” means ~20 pints is the average
stevewithcats on
Wait ,,,, 9000 ml of alcohol per year?
And there 12.7 ml of alcohol in a standard unit
So that’s 708.66 units
And there 2 units in a pint so divide by 2 to find how many pints that is

The more weed you smoke the less appealing alcohol becomes.
This is positive. Happy to see it
So we’re becoming dry shites?
