But the RSA are raking it in with the amount of retests so why would they want to fix that problem? It’s a racket! I’ve heard lots of stories of people failing marginally for stupid reasons. If they applied common sense, the pass rate would be much higher and the waiting lists would decrease.

As someone who had to do the test 4 times, it needs to be said. The tester is somewhat subjective. On my second test I was failed on my gears. But on my other tests I never once got marked on my gears at all. Unfortunately, it could just come down to a bad day, or you’re just shite at driving tests like me.

It is unfortunately a racket, many of the criteria have little to do with road safety and more to do with complicating the test to make passing more difficult – reversing around corners etc.
The sad thing is that it is another easily fixable thing that is preventing people from progressing in their lives, and worse than that, it is producing worse drivers on our roads.

Can we a time band breakdown?
Time on the list is more important than the number of people on the list.

Is there a single program run by the government, or one of their contractors that works (for the people)

I failed because I didn’t break the law.
tester wanted me to reverse out from a minor road onto a major road because the road they told me to drive into was so small it could only fit one car and we met another one on it.
I refused to reverse out because it was a blind spot and I told them I wouldn’t be able to see if anything was coming. They snorted and I pulled into the side to let a car through. They gave me a grade three for that… Reached out to 13 driving instructors including that dane taghe guy on YouTube and they all said that a grade 3 was ridiculous and that I should report the tester
So I reported them and the RSA basically said that testers can test however they want. (On page 40 something of the driving handbook it says reversing from a minor to major road is illegal btw…)
So yeah, I think the actual testers and their god complexes aren’t helping things much

A 6 month wait is ridiculous. They want people to follow the rules but they make it as difficult as they can for people. I’m lucky that I have someone willing to drive me to work but not everyone has that.

We could pause driving lessons and hire all instructors to do tests, clear the backlog?

I failed in January because my insurance disk was printed in black and white. Still waiting for a retest date. It really doesn’t seem like a system they are motivated to fix.

I applied for my driving test in July last year. Still waiting to hear back. Each time I check the RSA estimator thing, the scheduled date for an invitation to join the test queue keeps getting pushed further out.
I suppose I should be a bit grateful as it gives me more time to practice driving but still it’s frustrating.

I passed first time 2 years ago but it was because I learned more driving around with my dad over my instructor.
My instructor kept saying I did things wrong but never really explained why. I know another girl who did over 20 lessons and still couldn’t pass. It feels built for fails more then passes. Like the NCT

How many of that number don’t have valid licenses? To get a third learner permit, you have to already have a test booked.
Not looking forward to when wait times climb to over a year and some people have to renew their licenses twice between booking their tests and taking it.

Likely a stealth medod to reduce carbon emissions for the people most vocal about global hotness.
If the country is going to destroy 100,000 cows (right before a pending trade war) for some green farts agenda, then certainly it can and should also remove about 100,000 drivers from the roads, besides they’ll only struggle to pay insurance anyway.
