This is also an argument against centralizing military capabilities on the EU level. Redundancies are good if one of the participating governments turns uncooperative.

I want the French they are EU members – We can not trust UK in the current position, I would like to, but we must not be that dumb to replace our security to another bad actor. The current affairs in UK is an open door for right wing Trumpians and the fact that they voted themselves out of EU is a testament that they could be persuaded with non facts.

In a matter of days, Europe is uniting itself behind France and praising its remarkable political and military decisions.
What a strange time to be alive.
We all need to work together as an alliance and always be prepared for those alliances to change over time.
It doesn’t matter if those countries are European in the EU or not.
I’m from the UK and the truth is our army alone is in no position to defend Europe. Only together with friendly nations could it be a credible defence. But we do have that and we shouldn’t be afraid to show Russia how many countries are lined up to defend European countries.
Each country brings something to the table and we need to invest in more weapons and defensive capabilities.
We all know what’s coming. Russia can’t do anything much more for a few years. Let’s not waste time arguing who should replace the US let’s just get on with every country training and buying more weapons. Turn every Russian border into a kill zone.
Thank god for France. I am making a point of avoiding US products, and I will actively choose French products over others because of how they are standing up for Ukraine and Europe.
