>US ‘to cease all future military exercises in Europe’
>Nato countries could be forced to plan manoeuvres without US as Trump continues pivot away from bloc
>The United States has told its allies that it does not plan to participate in military exercises in Europe, according to reports.
>The move, the latest in Donald Trump’s pivot away from the bloc, would see America pull out of exercises beyond those already scheduled for this year.
>The withdrawal concerns exercises that are on the “drawing board”, according to Swedish newspaper Expressen.
>It means that Nato countries will be forced to plan exercises without the participation of the US military, the largest in the alliance.
>Mr Trump has repeatedly criticised Nato countries for not meeting the current goal of spending two per cent of GDP on defence, arguing that the disparity puts an unfair burden on the United States.
>On Friday, he warned that the US may not defend Nato allies who do not meet the spending target as part of a major shake-up of the alliance.
>Mr Trump told reporters: “When I came to Nato, when I first had my first meeting, I noticed that people weren’t paying their bills at all, and I said I should wait till my second meeting.
>“And I did. And I brought that up, and I said, ‘If you don’t pay your bills, we’re not going to participate. We’re not going to protect you.’
>“And when I said that, as soon as they said that, it was amazing how the money came in, the money came in, and now they have money. But even now, it’s not enough. They should be paying more.”
>It has also been reported that the Trump administration is redrawing Nato engagement in a way that favours member countries with higher defence spending.
>The president is said to be considering prioritising military exercises with member countries that are spending the set percentage of GDP on their defence, officials told NBC.
>“Nato has to pay more,” Mr Trump said in January after taking office. “It’s ridiculous because it affects them a lot more. We have an ocean in between.”
>The Telegraph reported on Friday that Mr Trump is also considering pulling US troops out of Germany and redeploying them to Eastern Europe.
>He is understood to be weighing up withdrawing some 35,000 active personnel and moving them to Hungary.
>Meanwhile, as high-level talks in Saudi Arabia are due to start next week, Volodymyr Zelensky has said that Ukraine is “fully committed to constructive dialogue” with the US.
>“Ukraine has been seeking peace from the very first second of this war. Realistic proposals are on the table,” the Ukrainian president said in a post to X.
>Mr Zelensky said that he would visit Saudi Arabia for talks with the kingdom’s crown prince, but would not stay on for talks with representatives of the US government.
>Ukraine has been put under unparalleled pressure by the US, which this week suspended military aid and intelligence sharing.
>Mr Zelensky is still yet to meet Mr Trump since their disastrous White House meeting sparked a geopolitical crisis.
>Mr Trump doubled down on his criticism of Mr Zelensky on Friday, saying it may be “easier” to work with Moscow than Kyiv on efforts to end the three-year war.
>The White House was contacted for comment.

Europe is alone.
With the recent rearmament the continent is experiencing hopefully it can continue training NATO doctrine without the U.S and preferably with eachother.

Time for Europe to evict them entirely now that they’re actively helping Russia.
Having American military bases on European soil is a trojan horse at this point.

I have this fearful sensation of WW3…it’s debilitating for my mood in life…selfish people will destroy the world because of their ego.

Little value in doing exercises with an “ally” who probably won’t be there when you need them. Exercises of European forces under European command using European weapons and training for European concerns seems much more valuable. A good way to discover what gaps are critical in the absence of the US.

Surely someone high up in the US military understands this is also bad (weakening) for America, and must make a stand eventually? Or are they really going to take dumbass orders from the tango’d bag of waste of skin?

I’m starting to believe that Trump’s transactional approach to things means that he wants to turn the US Military into something like a business, where you have to pay America for them to come and help.

If American troops leave, that’s just free military bases for European troops

Oh good, then we can assume that they’re up to no good if they suddenly decide they want “exercises”.

How long until every European country follows Poland’s example and makes military training mandatory for all adult males?

All the “russian” stuff aside – if we’re preparing for NATO without US, this would be a good thing.
It’d allow our soldiers to train with the correct new leadership rearrangements.
Also, inconsistency: how is he simultaneously going to not train anymore, but move troops to Hungary, but also support higher defence spending countries (which if not Hungary)?

The whole GDP % metric being used is ludicrous.
It should be about operational readiness and capability in relation to population and land mass.
Rushing into purchases, wasteful spending, making poor choices equates to increase in GDP %

So, it looks like their plan is to move their military from the rest of Europe into Hungary, to remain as a troyan horse in Europe?

An ocean? Russia is just 80Km from the coast of Alaska, they can cross over and invade any time they want.

Am I the only one concerned at the possibility of just how fucking insane the US could really get? If they want to be isolationist, fine. But what happens if they don’t? Is there a possibility that they become actively hostile like Russia?

Yeah he’s effectively withdrawing the US from NATO.
Also the idea of moving all the bases in Germany to Hungary.
Trump probably realizes or the people around him that withdrawing the US from NATO is a political impossibility, congress will never go along with it. So he’s just effectively stopping the active participation in NATO by the US.
So yeah, it’s everything that a Russian agent would do.

Remember back in the day when we’d all naively wonder what would be the final straw that will make Congressional Republicans break from Trump in favor of our Constitution? Turns out there is no bottom for these cowardly traitors. They’re perfectly happy selling our democracy for some indeterminate period in power. I’m disgusted by them and everyone who voted for them.

So, they are not going to help with preparing the Baltic area with other NATO troops, breaking another agreement. I’m not surprised.
If Ukraine falls, Lithuania is next. There are military exercises going on there right now with Sweden and Denmark, both new to NATO, Canada, Germany and the UK.
