*They must replace American military aid to Ukraine scrapped by Mr Trump and make sure Russian leader Vladimir Putin does not win the conflict.*

Europe already are stepping up was the realized last week that the US had become a Russian puppet state.

American here, all these Reddit armchair generals predicting doomsday and their hyperbole.

The EU does not need the USA. They have a bigger economy and population than the USA. You folks have terrific weapons systems.

Stop with all of this doom posting. You folks will be fine. Once EU defense is up and running,  Russia will lose territory. You will not need the US for this. We’re simply too divided right now.

Usa has caused enough trouble with Vietnam,  Afghanistan, Iraq, etc and we dragged EU countries into our mess.

It’s time for the USA to look inward.

EU can be it’s own super power!

End of the world no, but it will be really really bad and possibly the end of the world as we know for quite a while depending on how this will cascade especially in the pacific.

Maybe then he’ll have a chance of becoming Secretary-General, after all it was the US which knocked him out of the running in favour of Rutte/Iohannis.

NATO _is_ the post-WW2 world order, so it arguably would be

It could very well lead to something awful.
For all practical purposes, Trump has already left NATO when he threw in his lot with Putin.
The purpose of NATO is to resist Russian aggression.
Two nuclear super-powers joining forces, with neither leader constrained by any shred of ethics, is a huge problem for the rest of the world.
The reason there are only 9 nations with nuclear weapons is because the U.S. made a solemn promise to the rest of the free world. The U.S. promised that, if other nations agreed not to develop nuclear arms programs, the U.S. would have their back. The U.S. would, without delay, come to their aid and protect them with a “nuclear umbrella”.
      Trump just broke this promise.
This leaves many nations feeling extremely vulnerable right now.
It is reasonable to assume that several former allies are now feverishly planning new alliances and new defense strategies, which very likely will include developing their own nuclear programs.
They likely believe they have little choice but to do so.
This can become an extraordinarily huge problem very quickly if it gets out of hand.

US is getting weaker also, If US loses access of the bases and sky of NATO Europe can’t make a good line logistics for their troops around the world.

Of the world no, the world always survives but the end of the American era yes, the Chinese era will begin and those do not discount anyone

    9. MaestroGena on

Not the literal end of the world but the end of the world as we know it. What if ww3 will be different this time, not big nations against each other but big nations taking on smaller nations around them?

    10. Realistic_Let3239 on

It would cause problems sure, but after what Trump did to Ukraine to appease his master Putin, then throwing a tantrum because his ego wasn’t kissed up to enough, the USA can not be trusted by NATO anymore. Heck at this point they’d probably invade on behalf of Russia, they’re going out of their way to help Putin and weaken his enemies as it is…

The current version of the US is a bad union to have. Totally compromised.

They just have Les and less say as time goes on. Unfortunately Trying mp and his merry band on brown shirts think theyll still have the same clout.

Thhge US is a Russian ally and nobody can trust thhgem to defend article 5 anymore so thggeres no difference if they leave.

He is right, there’s only one thing that will bring the end of the world: The End Of The World.

    16. romacopia on

Considering NATO’s purpose is to prevent world war, I think it’s not alarmist to say that breaking it apart actually does have *some* chance to be the end of the world.

    17. Aware-Chipmunk4344 on

If US quits, Europe just takes over, and what’s the big deal? Actually much better now Europe can decide independantly for themselves.

    18. faulkkev on

Part of the plan to allow Russia to have easier path without USA being involved. I am begging to think all of Cheeto faces appointed people are Russian assets.

    19. Honestly no it won’t be.

If anything I believe it would be a positive for NATO members. Instead of an over reliance on USA it would be a stronger alliance of countries with an aligned interest (defend against Russia) working together.

The short term it will weaken the alliance until they’ve filled the gaps USA provides, but for the long term USA is going to massively lose out on strategic locations of airbases etc.

Why would NATO countries want US bases in their country if they’re actively against the alliances main objective.
