If the lady had insurance I doubt they would be rebuilding any faster

Wait what? She had no insurance, received over 100k in donations. The house will be rebuilt.

Left behind? She’s experiencing the exact same housing shortage as everyone else.

Why can’t she stay with her brother again? Better than being homeless surely.

She didn’t have insurance. She gambled and lost. Why should the taxpayer be on the hook to fix this for her? I’m sick of people effectively sticking their hands in my pocket every time their choices in life come back to bite them.

“The humanitarian [Assistance Scheme] said, ‘we will send you an assessor immediately.’ ”

If she has a 107k in cash what does she need the humanitarian assistance scheme for?

It’s a sad story for this lady but with 107k in donations I think I might see a way out.

Not sure why people are being particularly mean. Firstly, she’s most likely paid tax her entire working life and is entitled to access the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme. All homeowners are entitled to access the scheme actually.
