You cannot defend a rules-based system by breaking the rules. According to WTO rules, the EU cannot impose tariffs on the US just because the US implemented tariffs on Canada.
Having said that, I sincerely hope that some mutual planning of what to do when tariffs were applied to both Canada AND the EU has been going on since Trump’s election and today.

Canadian here, we cannot reverse these tariffs. We need to have commerce with Europe. We could be so complimentary as economies, so much more than we are now.
Why not just slap tariffs back on the US and then make trade deals with the rest of the world – let the US sort it self out.
The US is basically giving away their export markets for free, opening doors for others to swoop in and trade.
Can we all stop commenting on her looks? If she were a man would you be commenting on his appearance? I bet not, she is a woman in a position of power and should be given the respect that she is due, regardless of her gender.
