Shocking. Nolan is clearly unfit for office. What does he have to do to get impeached by the Dail?

Avoids jail. Cant even avoid a cyclist.

I wonder if someone was a professional vehicle operator on a building site and they caused life threatening injuries to someone due to their negligence, would they get off with the same sentence?

Why would that be?

When you think about it, the fact that we allow people to drive vehicles weighing multiples tons on public streets at all is somewhat insane. There is a bit of a social contract involved where road users accept the risk of others’ negligence having outsized consequences to themselves as a necessity to make the whole system work at all.
This is why criminal penalties for driving are as much about the motive and intent as it is the consequences, otherwise why not a custodial sentence for not looking in your mirrors even if it doesn’t cause injury? Or the alternative, no penalty for drunk driving and speeding as long as you don’t kill anyone? Neither one of those are workable solutions. As unjust as it feels in this situation, it’s the only way to make roads work besides getting rid of motorized vehicles all together.
