      This is so weird.

      I mean yeah, a lot of us are pretty fucking pissed with the government right now.

      But other countries…doing this? Is weird.

      This is from the carneval in Basel – not really a protest in the classical sense. Still great!

      Looks like a Carnaval parade to me. With as usual a political theme as they often do.

      This is during Fasnacht, an annual festival where there are long parades of people dressing up. They would have been part of long lines of groups in all kinds of  very creative dress up costumes.

      This is Basler Fastnacht. Its a carnival to celebrate the changing of Winter to Spring among other things. There is very often political themed groups in the procession. The most recent one i went to there had a giant hand grenade with Trump and Kim Jong Un’s faces on the side.

      As others have commented already, this is from a carnival celebration, not a protest.

      One of my favourite towns in the world; Basel. Love the vibes there. Go there often. Really nice people too. On a visit two years ago I sat next to a large table with students at au Violon restaurant outdoors. There where two American students present and I overheard them talking. They where so in awe of Europe and where looking actively for ways to stay permanently. They spoke of their fear of going back because of the state their country was in. „ Living here for a year now and I can’t think of anything that is better in the US.” You should have heard the crack of emotion in his voice. It surprised me because normally a white American guy can be very “ present” in oversharing their greatness. The pain was very genuine. Maybe one of them is in the parade. 🫶🏻
