Lmao, if standing (not even that firmly thanks to ff and fg ) against a genocide is problematic then i don’t want to not be

    2. PoppedCork on

Problematic for highlighting the disproportionate response by Israel, or just anyone who criticizes Israel they now call names because they want the blessing to wipe off the face of the earth people they don’t like.

    3. RocketRaccoon9 on

“Boohoo, people don’t like us because we support Genocide “

    4. bathtubsplashes on

And any specific examples of incidents that would back up their claim?!

If an Irishman did multiple sieg heils at the inauguration of the most powerful man in the world, would that help our standing? Because the ADL certainly came out to defend Elon Musk

How can they be allowed to bandy words around so ridiculously.

    5. Why is he even meeting with these racist, genocidal groups? Why not organise meetings with the proud boys and kkk while he’s at it?

    6. Prestigious-Many9645 on

Its strange when there’s literal neo nazi groups in many other European countries and have been for decades but somehow Ireland is the most problematic

    7. It’s inaccurate to call the ADL a group representing Jewish interests, it represents Israeli interests. Their choice to not criticise Elon Musk for his salute shows very clearly where their priorities are.

    8. Ok_Cartoonist8959 on

In my opinion, as a Jew who’s been here all my life, Ireland is not – or certainly *has not* been – an antisemitic country. I grew up as a happy and proud Irish Jew. And while there was probably a little bit more overt antisemitism in their day, so did my parents and grandparents.

So some of the stuff coming from Israeli politicians and diplomats is outrageous, defamatory, and plain wrong.

THAT SAID, the Taoiseach is disingenuous in saying Ireland’s position on Israel has been distorted. He should stand over his position, or reverse it – it’s one or the other. He’s been having to twist himself into a pretzel this last week in the States to pretend we’ve been more balanced on the issue than we have been.

And secondly, it is important to acknowledge that Jews – both Irish and those living here from elsewhere – genuinely have become more fearful about how we’re perceived by our neighbours. The anti-Israel rhetoric is so extreme that there’s been a natural spillover into anti-Jewish stuff – much of it borne out of ignorance i.e. someone might be saying something down the boozer that they think is now perfectly normal mainstream discourse, whereas to a Jewish ear it’s unbelievably offensive and/or fear-inducing. And whether people like it or not, this has been exacerbated by President Higgins, who has been thoroughly callous towards the community, ajd this obv holds signifcant weight given his position and how widely respected he is in the country.

Cheers to anyone reading this. Just keen to give an Irish Jewish perspective here, as it’s very weird and a bit scary to see our community in so many headlines at the moment, when we’d normally (and naturally) be in virtually none given our size. It’s a slightly disturbing amount of focus!

      Enjoy yizzer Saturdays 👍

Jewish group or Israeli group? There’s a big difference despite what Israeli propaganda would have us believe.

    10. DrOrgasm on

It’s all so performative. They set this up, then half of them pulled out because we’re anti semitic, then the other half showed up under protest and only to voice their disapproval that it was happening at all.

    11. That’s what they do whenever they aren’t cheered on for murder and theft. The nerve to call Ireland problematic meanwhile they are indiscriminately murdering civilians.

    12. Ireland threatened with Jewish American groups lobbying the Trump administration to cut off ties with Ireland. Antisemitism is wrong, so is ignoring what Israel is doing to the Palestinian people. Israel and their lobby groups can go fuck themselves. Ireland should always make a stand where it sees wrong happening, even when that’s an awkward place to stand.

    13. ReluctantWorker on

Ireland is certainly one of the most problematic countries in Europe for Israel alright. Jews are sound. Israelis are grand. The Israeli State and the settlers are the cunts.

    14. Problematic because we won’t capitulate to those causing genocide

    15. no_fucking_point on

The same crowd that had the blinkers on while Musk was seig heiling? Fuck ‘em.

Sunce Oct 7th and the international response by those in power to Israel’s demolition of Gaza I have lost a belief in humanity that I doubt I will ever get back .MM standing in an IDF vest while pointing to a whole in the ceiling was one of the many instances that gave those animals the green light .
I will never look at the world the same again.

      All changed,changed utterly.

As an English person living in Ireland I find this bizarre and ludicrous and Irish people should be taking offence from this kind of rhetoric at this point.

      It’s total gaslighting and disingenuous.

I’ve no doubt it’s intended to offend and so when Irish people respond – it can be painted as anti-Semitism.

Ignore them. keep calling out the state of Israel over their genocide, war crimes and ethnic cleansing.

    19. anyeights on

”The ACJ said if such action and statements continue, it will advocate for the US government to “take serious action in response”.” – so, blackmail?

    20. Comfortable-Title720 on

Our issue is with the State of Israel. Not against the regular person living there. A lot of bad blood for generations. We get it. We had the Brits but we don’t hate them that much anymore. The state just has to stop the slaughter and destruction of innocents. There has to be a better way to route out Hamas.

    21. Money_Song467 on

“problematic” = brings too much attention to your apartheid nation.

    22. MintmanSupreme on

Can we just drop all the theatrics and just say that these pro-zionist groups are just Jewish supremacist groups? Especially these American ones. The longer the actual racists can hide behind calling everyone who doesn’t agree with them “racists,” the worse this will get and never end. Martin walked into this one instead of politely declining and emphasising Ireland’s commitment to human rights globally, no matter the conflict.

    23. No-Ability-6856 on

Musk doing two Nazi salutes and addressing a meeting of the German neo nazi AfD party – not problematic

Irish people speaking out against the wholesale slaughter of Palestinian civilians- “one of the most problematic countries in Europe”.

The hypocritical cunts can fuck off.

    24. LeavingCertCheat on

We’re seriously in the bad timeline when actively opposing a systematic genocide is seen as problematic

    25. Fit-Courage-8170 on

Israel one of the most problematic countries in the world.

    26. Proper_Lawfulness_37 on

“Antisemitism and vilification of Israel”—well those two things are quite different aren’t they…

    27. johneng1 on

Honestly, as an Irish man any preceived insults from an Israeli is a thing if pride

    28. ZoomEagle on

The majority of Irish are fair-minded people. We will call out wrongdoing and murder …. Hamas are pure evil people, too, as they knew well that the October 7th attack was going to be hell on their own people…. is this Hamas attack a symptom of the years of subjugation and oppression by Israel.. Maybe … But Israel had to retaliate…. But what did they do with the massive funded army and technology, blow the place to smithereens , killing women & kids , rape male prisoners…. They reset any goodwill they had with most level-headed people around the world … they should have taken over the place and rooted out Hamas , put in proper social services and care programmes for the non aggressive civilians and win hearts and minds of the population and the world over …. I wonder if the Israeli government was majority women and not ageing war first types would it be in such a desperate position. Like what’s their end vision , they have lost the worlds respect and ignited a killing mind set in all those Palestinian children to grow up with hate and destruction for Israel. All in all it’s a horrible situation…

    29. imranhere2 on

Pointing out genocidal conduct is problematic to some Zionist groups it seems.

    30. im-a-guy-like-me on

Wtf does problematic even mean in regards to a country?

No one was even using that word a decade ago.

    31. geedeeie on

Good. “Problematic” means not Israeli bullshit. If these were true believers in Judaism they would be following the sixth commandment…

    32. Rodonite on

It’s so funny to me because obviously there are racist people in every country, but right now in Ireland (while the majority of people do support Gaza and condemn the Israeli actions of disproportionate revenge attacks largely against  innocent people) I feel like there is so much more anti-Islam racism than anti-Semitism. They’re literally just complaining about our condemnation of Israel’s campaign of hate against Palestine.

    33. Academic_Noise_5724 on

Far be it from me to praise De Valera but the reason ireland doesn’t have a state religion is because when he was writing the constitution Dev was concerned that irelands small Jewish population would be discriminated against if Catholicism was the official religion of the state

    34. pablo8itall on

I’m sure it is problem for them.

      “Just get in step paddy”

But then you have gobshites like those two stalkers who spit on the israeli dude having a pint. And that will be used to beat us and distract from us calling for human rights for Palestinians.

    35. monkyduigs on

Great that we’re annoying them this much.. Keep it up lads

    36. PedantJuice on

When I was new to the concept of people being trans, my take was ‘hey don’t be a dick to this minority obviously?’ and I got fairly publicly shamed by a group of incredibly nasty bigots who were calling me a misogynist for hating women.

There should be a word for trying to use one bigotry to pry people out of defending innocent people.

I heard some radio bullshit the other day interviewing jewish people asking them ‘do you think Irish is antisemetic’ and they all had to come up with the weakest, weirdest examples to try and portray Ireland as antisemetic because Ireland is one of very few European nations calling a spade a spade when it comes to the US/Israeli genocide happening over there.

Antisemitism is gross, don’t do it. Genocide is gross, don’t do it. Don’t let your opposition to one of these things be used to bully you into supporting the other.

EDIT: And by the way, it would be good to start writing down the names of politicians and radio personalities who are found doing it…

    37. banbha19981998 on

Most problematic because their usual narrative doesn’t work when a country has a history almost identical to their own in terms of occupation, starvation, exile and liberation.
