If it ever comes to a greater association with Canada, I think we should name it something different. Canada isn’t in Europe, and the relationship shouldn’t be defined by our name.
A wonderful pipe dream, nothing more. Canada could never be in the European union, as Brussels as already stated, because of the article that requires members to be in Europe. And I’m not going to argue semantics because Canada shares an island with the Danes, nor that France still has islands off our coast. There could be many positives from this vision, but there are also many negatives. Especially with regards to how Canada manages our resources compared with EU regulations. Same reason Norway has never joined.

I had an idea about a scenario where Russian opposition wins, sends Putin to Hague to be tried, liberalizes the country and joins the EU together with Ukraine, and then also Canada joins, and it’s the Northern Union instead of the European Union.
Canada never did anything bad to Europe.
Canada must be supported.

To be honest, I really like that map.
As a Canadian, the vast, vast majority of us want a stronger economic and social link to the EU. Older Canadians grew up with strong ties to the UK and the younger generation is much more worldly and understand the US isn’t the center of the world.

You’re dreaming if you think Norway will join the EU in the near future. Anti-EU sentiments are still common here.
Also Canada wouldn’t want to have some decisions enforced upon them from Brussels, it’ll be a bit distant for them. They’d be better off as a partner rather than a member.
