The Ukrainian flag’s blue and yellow colors symbolize the sky and fields of wheat, with its usage historically traced back to the 1848 Spring of Nations, making it a powerful symbol of Ukrainian identity and resistance. Notably, while the flag itself is easily recognized, there has been some debate on the proper shades and arrangements of the colors, as different flags have used either blue on top or yellow during various historical periods, causing some confusion in its representation. Some might notice that the stars representing the EU are aligned slightly off. I did this intentionally so that the central division between the yellow and blue wouldn’t intersect the leftmost and rightmost stars. While this isn’t as accurate to the actual EU flag, I believe it’s a better aesthetic choice than having the line intersect the stars. After all, this is an artistic piece rather than an official flag.

Additionally, I like the idea of not having a star positioned directly at the top or bottom of the circle, symbolising the notion that no single state or ideology is at the top or bottom of a hierarchy. I feel this creates a more egalitarian layout for the stars, aligning well with the message conveyed in this as an activist flag. Definitely over thinking it 🙂

The stars should connect to each other, perhaps on a circle to show unity/solidarity. Breaking one can cause all stars to react.
