”The Trump administration is considering recognizing Ukraine’s Crimea region as Russian territory as part of any future agreement to end Moscow’s war on Kyiv, according to two people familiar with the matter.

Administration officials have also discussed the possibility of having the US urge the United Nations to do the same, according to both people.

Such a request would align the Trump administration with the position of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has long seen Crimea as his nation’s territory.”

    2. I’d prefer Alska given back to Russia.

it was theirs after all, Just like Crimea.

Plus, they want it back. I heard that they are claiming it was illegally sold to US.

And a few years ago Duma member said similar thing.

I don’t want world war 3 Donald, I don’t want nukes and ballistics flying over my head Donald.

I don’t want Nuclear winter Donald, Please give Alaska back to Russia to avert potential ww3 after you leave the office in 4 years.

Trump has a very large mouth and a very small brain. He’s doing nothing good for humanity.

Give up Crimea in exchange for getting nonstop fucked with grey-zone style and invaded more later.

He continues like this, next time some terror happens to Americans, Europe going to cheer. Damn in what a strange world we live in today.

It’s a good thing Trump wasn’t president during WWII. He would have given half of Europe to Hitler to ‘make peace’.

The Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances (1994) directly involved the following countries:

      1. Ukraine – Agreed to give up its nuclear weapons in exchange for sovereignty guarantees and security assurances from the other signatories.

      2. Russia – Signed the agreement, promising to respect Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and borders and to refrain from threats or use of force.

      3. United States – Provided security assurances to Ukraine, committing to respect its sovereignty and assist diplomatically if its territorial integrity was threatened.

      4. United Kingdom – Also provided security assurances, similar to the U.S., in exchange for Ukraine’s nuclear disarmament.

If Trump thinks Putin will be appeased with Crimea, he is dumber than he looks. Putin wants to annex all of the territory he has stolen and Ukraine to give back the territory they captured. And he wants Ukraine demilitarized so he can invade later.

    16. I was waiting how Trump would put pressure on Putin to accept the cease-fire. Turns out turning on the pressure is showering him with gifts. Good to know.

    17. momentimori on

If he does recognise this then the right of conquest has returned to international law.

America never diplomatically recognised Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia as part of the Soviet Union.

    18. godsGiftforWomen on

Recognize Crimea but then give back all territories they took in illegal invasion in 2022? And Ukraine joins NATO. I would sign that. But since russians won’t agree to that war will continue while putin is alive.

    19. Skastrik on

      End the war?

It’ll make it even worse, the US would be giving up any pretense of being a mediator.

Trump considers actually doing what he falsely accused Obama of doing.

      This feels like a trend…

    22. Efficient_Resist_287 on

Oh he will…his defense secretary, VP and Marco Rubio paved the way to declare Crimea a fait accompli….next is Taiwan.

I can see a conference in the future between Putin/Xi/Trump to carve the world in zone of influence. It is coming.

Weakest man in history literally trying anything so he can claim he ‘brought peace to Ukraine’ before he leaves office.

      >Donald Trump said that the people of Russia-annexed Crimea appear to want to remain under Russia’s control –- and that a President Trump would “look at” whether the U.S. would recognize Russian control of the territory.

      >”I’m gonna take a look at it,” Trump told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos in an interview on “This Week” Sunday. “But you know, the people of Crimea, from what I’ve heard, would rather be with Russia than where they were. And you have to look at that, also.”

      Same as it ever was.

Trump has been a source of Russian / Soviet talking points since the 1980s. Trump’s peddling of the Kremlin party line is nothing new.

    25. voyagerdoge on

US recognition at this point is mob recognition. Without value.

    26. Trump doesn’t get to decide. The people of the country get to decide.

    27. zekoslav90 on

What a fucking stupid deluded thing to say

    30. What about Alaska? It was a pretty bad deal from a pretty bad tsar back in the days. I think the USA should give it back to Russia! Did they even say thank you?

    31. Of course you can end a war with an invader by giving the invader the ground they want. I didn’t know Trump owned Crimea to give away.
