      >Some 8,000 separate infringement incidents were spotted by the cameras — from motorists driving illegally in dedicated bus lanes, to impeding the flow of buses by parking on double-yellow lines, or stopping in yellow box junctions — but there will be no enforcement proceedings arising because it was just a trial.

I certainly think there’s an argument, from a civil liberties point of view, that a system like this should primarily be focused on bus specific issues but it seems like it would have value.

      >”Having completed the trial, we are satisfied that such a bus-based camera system would be beneficial in addressing current infringement issues…”

So we’re going to implement a version of it? Right?

Two 24 hour buses for three months would mean they got something like two offences per bus per hour, which is actually remarkably low.

They absolutely need to change the Garda processes if they’re going to be effective here. The Luas red light camera at Queen St had to be shut down, as Gardai couldn’t keep up with the level of prosecutions. They need to set up the bus cameras in the same way as the speed camera vans, so the prosecutions issue automatically, with the need for individual Garda review.
