According to a history class I took, that area has a port which can be used for military purposes.

I remember that TMT hold that position so well they did not wanted to surrender.
It was a Turkish village named “Erenköy” but it was determined they wouldn’t be able to continue to live there so they were settled in Καρπασία, in a village named “New Erenköy”. Currently, original Erenköy is used for military purposes with no civilian population.
