The cruises are always cheaper, especially with jäsentarjous (club discount).
Instead of two separate single tickets, try buying two in single transaction (menopaluu instead of two meno) -> price is €118. Still more expensive than two cruises tho.
That is what I would expect. There is a business logic to it, possibly having to do with occupancy rates or something.
This is a typical special price for people wanting to have a cruise experience = eating and drinking onboard. Technically, it is a breach of ticket rules if you leave the boat after the first trip (Helsinki-Stockholm).. However, I am pretty sure nobody will chase you up and demand extra payment if you do that.
Cruises have typically very discounted price level compared with one-way travel tickets. I have some years ago bought a cruise Stockholm-Turku/Åbo-Stockholm for my girlfriend living in Stockholm while I worked in Turku/Åbo. She then “missed her boat” and stayed in Finland. The price that time was hefty 50 SEK.
The first picture shows the price of a cruise where you board the ship on the 3rd day and spend the 4th day ashore from 10am to 4.30pm. After that you have to board the ship again and the ship returns to Finland overnight.
The second picture shows a one-way trip where you can choose to stay ashore for as long as you want. If you want a visit ashore as long as you want and other than the 6 hours that is included in the cruise, you have to buy two one-way tickets.
I do the Stockholm – Helsinki or HEL-STO one-way ferry trip at least annually, and I always book a cruise since it is cheaper.
They make money at restaurants and other services onboard, which explains the pricing difference.
Just remember to buy the return trip leaving from Stockholm. You won’t get your boarding pass from the halfway of the trip (and you need to check in at the terminal).
