      Excerpt:

      > The day started with a phone call from Prime Minister Abela, before the start of the Council, to European Council President Antonio Costa, during which Dr Abela stated that the single market is not working the same for the member states, whilst putting particular stress on medicines.

      > “We are being faced with a hardly credible reality, being that access in our country is endangered, were it not for our efforts including negotiation of a derogation during Brexit; however, what we are proposing is that as part of the amendment to the ongoing Pharmaceuticals regulations, we have to ensure we do not end up with a situation where medicines producers decide not to send medicines to the smallest member state, or where the price at which our citizens will access these medicines will be doubled.”

      > Prime Minister Robert Abela

      > Dr Abela added he will stress on this point during the summit and praised the European Commission which he said had understood and was working towards a solution to this challenge, whilst also recognising however that to date, Pharmaceutical Regulations are not along the lines desired by Malta.
