      The government devalued the currency and tried to switch to the floating currency for a few days.

      it’s not a week, mate, it is 2 devaluations with several months inbetween them – first in early 2015, the second in late 2015. The government deattached AZN from USD at (1 USD = 0.78 AZN) as it was harder and harder to keep AZN at that level, as we understand, petrodollars were contributing less and less to the budget and economy, meanwhile exports became more expensive. This was becoming unsustainable.
