Eastern borders need to repel Russia faster than 5 years. We can not wait 10 years.

    2. French and German (mostly French) politicians fantasize about how in 10 years all of Europe will be buying missiles and tanks from them with taxpayers’ money.

This is the first sensible timeline I’ve seen – hugely undesireable obviously – but at least in the case of the UK, 5 years is how long it will take to get to to bare minimum fighting strength. If all current Navy procurement projects are kept and in some cases increased (ahem T26s), and the RAF is augmented with further AWACS and tankers, and GCAP remains on schedule, within 10 years we’ll have a pretty credible Navy and Airforce.

You can’t just increase defence spending and expect the DIB to be able to fill a sledgehammer fall of demands – infrastructure needs to be built up, supply lines estbalished and secured, partnerships formed etc etc. Then there’s personnel recruiting and training. I wish this wasn’t the world we’re in, but hey interesting times etc

Only consolation is that Russia has been economically and militarily fucked by Ukraine, so will probably be limping towards the 5 year deadline as well.

Technically speaking, wouldn’t another 5-10 years make it a 85-90 years plan?

They just need a replacement for 4 years. The next administration will be sane. Hopefully.

Amen. Just as I am preaching for weeks already. Anything else would be complete and utter nonsense and not realistic to achieve. Just new ratifications would take years and everything has already been invented and established.

I have some optimistic feelings about this as well, as a European. Mistakes were made, yes. But European engineering, especially when it comes to hardware, is still absolutely first grade. And in a way, the biggest problems we’ve had over the past decades is a) a lack of purpose or a clear goal, b) all the awesome tech startups Europe has produced being bought out by American investor money (that they can basically just print due to USD being the reserve currency).

Both issues are kind of coming to a halt now. Europe *needs* to do this, and no, we can’t keep selling out our best ideas to US.

I’d like to think this nightmare will be over in 4 years

Will Europe be guaranteeing the independent of Ukraine through force? Boots on the ground?

Will Ukraine be admitted into this new “alliance?”

Europe would have to spend massively on logistics then. This includes midair refueling, intelligence satellites, etc.

For this to work we need economic agreements. Right now, The UK and Turkey are excluded but are huge European military powers.

No I am sorry but after the recent scenario with countries rejecting aid for Ukraine because they have to look out for themselves

My confidence in EU has been shattered (again )

We exclude the UK (for more talks ) I get US but why UK ? And I know it’s ongoing but …..damn

So much talking and talking , we would kill ourselves talking ….

You can make biological weapons capable of MAD way faster than that.

15-20 years is realistic and by then the Ukraine war will have long ended and the people in Government will have retired with their healthy shares in the arms industry or died of old age. Putin certainly won’t be around for it. 5-10 years is pure fantasy.

Every country would need to increase arms spending by 700% for next 15 years and you try selling that to European countries full of people struggling to pay their bills? The people in the UK will be voting out Kier next election due to the cuts labour made and no people here won’t support more arms spending when we are living in povety.

Anyone whose been paying attention to the US & european military expects on this knows that after the Ukraine wars ended the next big conflict will be Iran. There will be no war between Russia & NATO, thats pure propaganda delivered by a billion dollar Arms industry who has countless politicians in their pockets. Countries with Nukes don;t directly fight each other as thats suicide.

The current generation will eventually learn what most of us did after Afganistan & Iraq. That these wars are stirred up by the CIA to feed a billion dollar arms industry. That every couple decades we see CIA files saying so but no one wants to acknowledge that. The next Generation will get fooled into supporting a war with Iran and will be convinced Iran started it.

Never ending cycle of war and the arms industry & politicians getting rich off it.

Is this like the same one they came up with 30 years ago?

    16. pasharadich on

Again these highly optimistic timelines as if we’re not living on the brink of big war

As an American, finally. We have been asking y’all to fulfill your commitments for decades. Meanwhile, y’all have been able to afford universal healthcare because we were paying for your defence. Maybe we can reinvest our money into our own people with the extra money.
