And the overwhelming majority of what we have is Sitka plantation forests, which is little better than agricultural grasslands for biodiversity.

We just need to convince the rest of the EU to cut more trees down, simple

Realistically we are the lowest. Half the netherlands is reclaimed from the sea and Malta is a burning hot rock in the middle of the ocean lol

People forget that at the end of the 19th century, woodland cover in Ireland was only 1%. The establishment of Coillte led to great development of woodland areas and that continues despite hiccups along the way.

All the happiest countries in Europe have more trees. I don’t care if it’s a coincidence, I believe this is directly due to more trees.

We have ruined our beautiful countryside for profit. I fucking despise the world we have created where all that matters is how much money we can’t extract from every little corner of the world.

It would be lovely to see an increase in the forest coverage here. But from what I’ve seen so far, most of the trees here are planted for Forestry, not really native trees for biodiversity.
Is this something that is even discussed in politics?

They destroyed a lovely little native woods by me that had about 40 old oak, chestnut trees to build more houses . Used to love going there as a young lad to get conkers . The government shite on about the environment and diversity and then they allow shite like that .

The double whammy of being incredibly centralised in 2 cities as a country but also having no land area where absolutely no one lives. No big open wilderness.

Not exactly that relevant to this but something I really loved when I lived in Sweden was trees being everywhere, a stroll in the woods was something that could be achieved with no hassle whatsoever

Behind Malta, and Holland, one of which is famously built on the seabed, and the other had their whole forestry cut down to build Roman ships (and the soil has become so degraded since that it struggles to support trees)

Why does everything need to be a competition?

We’re first lowest when you exclude our commercial tree farms comprised of non-native species.

is there anything stopping them rewilding all the national parks to native forestry? Some very dead looking places there
