Interesting that IRES isn’t defending it publically, and has backed down when challenged on the practice previously. Makes it sound a lot more like they’re trying it on and depending on people to not challenge it, rather than say a property manager going a bit far or them thinking they have a leg to stand on.

The country’s biggest landlord, a supposedly reputable company. If they won’t play by the rules, what hopes for the rest?

The cost of cleaning and maintaining common areas in apartment blocks is, and has always been, on the property owner/landlord. Charging tenants as well for this is just pure greed, and I’m glad it’s been challenged and publicised.

We’ve seen people post on here about their landlord adding a “service charge” to their rent as a way of getting around the RPZ limits. How many unfortunate tenants are paying this, due to not knowing it’s wrong, or just fearing to rock the boat?

Imagine booking a hotel and being told you’ll need to pay extra to use the lobby and halls

Pretty sure just getting rid of one of one c suit executive salary will save them the money , so just fire your level management and they have all the savings they ever wanted

    5. Sounds like they were trying to double dip for the building services charges

    6. IRES is the wooorst!

Since they bought our apartment block a few years ago everything went to shit, they take months to fix things

This sounds like one of the scams landlords in NYC get away with all the time.

In New York the weasels have the electric supplier bill each tenant as if the landlord is supplying the electricity to you, so he can add 20% on top of your bill.

They also charge you rent on the hallways and common areas, so if you have 1000sq feet/93sq metres you pay rent on 1200sq feet.

I was reading about how this is a thing they try to do in China so renters use the lobby and hallways to store stuff as they are being charged for it
