Can someone ELI5 for me? I’ll be honest, Turkey was not on my radar yet this year. Seems like we went from 0-100 real quick

I was wondering about this. The first time I went to Turkey, over 20 years ago, there was a picture of Ataturk in every hotel and young people had tattoos of him. What happened?

As in “Young Turks”? I’m only slightly familiar. If so let me know and I will dig deeper. I normally associate Young Turks with Lawrence of Arabia

Erdogan staged a coup in 2016….nobody cared.
Erdogan is responsible for dealing with ISIS and Russia…nobody cared.
Erdogan has risen from a poor family and now he is a billionaire…nobody cared.
Erdogan has imprisoned anyone who tries to confront him…nobody cared.
Turkey is not Instabul, the majority of Turkish people will vote Erdogan again…and again…and again, because they believe him and have no connection with the Western civilization!

Can you imagine if people could live forever? This is one of the times I’m thankful we all pass away at some stage or Erdogan, and others would never leave.
