Maksym Chernyak, a 44-year-old citizen of Ukraine in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, was pronounced deceased by medical professionals at HCA Kendall Hospital in Miami, Florida, Feb. 20 at 2:25 p.m. A hospital physician reported the preliminary cause of death as bleeding from the brain.

Chernyak had been hospitalized since being taken to the hospital by Miami Dade Fire Rescue due to vomiting and seizure activity Feb.18.

Chernyak entered the United States on Aug. 24, 2024, in Miami as a Ukrainian Humanitarian Parolee with authorization to stay in the U.S. through Aug. 23, 2026. ICE encountered Chernyak Jan. 26 at the Broward County Jail in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, following an arrest for battery with bodily harm, and lodged an immigration detainer. Broward County Jail released Chernyak into the custody of ICE Feb. 2, and he was transported to the Krome Service and Processing Center.

Miami Dade Fire Rescue transported Chernyak to the HCA Kendall Hospital due to vomiting and seizure activity. Hospital medical staff established a stroke alert due to unresponsive state after Chernyak was admitted Feb. 18. Medical staff conducted a CT scan of the brain which revealed bleeding. Medical staff intubated Chernyak and initiated several intravenous medications to stabilize him. Medical staff began brain death protocol Feb. 19 due to the massive intra cranial hemorrhage.

Consistent with ICE protocols, the appropriate components were notified about the death, including the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General and the ICE Office of Professional Responsibility. ICE notified Chernyak’s attorney as he does not have a listed next of kin.

Upon an official report of a detained illegal alien death, ICE makes official notifications to Congress, nongovernmental organization stakeholders, and the media and posts a news release with relevant details on the public website within two business days, per agency policy. This information may be accessed in the ICE.gov Newsroom. Additionally, congressional requirements described in the 2018 DHS appropriations bill require ICE to make public all reports regarding an in-custody death within 90 days. These reports may be accessed on the Detainee Death Reporting page.

ICE remains committed to ensuring that all those in its custody reside in safe, secure and humane environments. Comprehensive medical care is provided from the moment individuals arrive and throughout the entirety of their stay. All people in ICE custody receive medical, dental and mental health intake screening within 12 hours of arriving at each detention facility, a full health assessment within 14 days of entering ICE custody or arrival at a facility, and access to medical appointments and 24-hour emergency care. At no time during detention is a detained illegal alien denied emergent care.

I’m sorry but not sorry for my next statement.

If you’re going to do domestic abuse, you’re gonna fafo.

I love my Ukrainian people however  if your beating someone up.  You gonna learn.

I wasn’t there for the facts or the circumstances.

I’m just saying you shouldn’t be putting yourself or others in that position.

There may be cultural divides and I respect that.

However don’t go besting someone up.

Now if it was his child who was being harmed, then all gloves off.

I’ll gonna try and take you the mat.

But if was just a disagreement, go into another room.

I was married for 23 years. The moment she threatened to call the police I knew to leave the relationship.

When I asked her a couple years later, she said “because I was mad”.

I just looked at her with my head cooked and thinking “really”?

My butt was in a chair that I was pushing around with my feet to get to a door to close it because she was saying vile things.  I told her to leave me alone and go away.  That’s when she said I was lunging at her and she was going to call the police.

I was out in less than 10 days.

1.5mil house. Gave it to her to be rid of her.

I love how they called him and illegal despite admitting at the top of the statement he was authorized to be here.

    4. WHY was he detained by ICE?

HOW did he get such a severe head trauma?

ICE is a borderline rogue agency, they’ve long been the target of activists for accountability but things are only worsening under the Trump administration.

To say this should make people angry is an understatement. Unfortunately, the question of accountability may be one that drags on for years and, while that will not reverse the crises the agency has caused, it may (someday) result in people losing their jobs or even going to jail. I only wish I could speed the process.

Note: agents both federally and in the state & local systems have been fired and/or jailed in the past, but (a) that is no gaurantee of justice in every situation, and (b) it can take years or even decades. Perhaps most notably, a sheriff in Arizona was convicted after something like 15 years of complaints against him…only for Trump to pardon the guy a few weeks before his jail sentence was set to begin (the good news is that that sheriff has never qualified for another ballot despite trying several times, though that is small comfort to those he harmed)

edit: “rogue” here means they try to make up their own rules, bypass or ignore actual rules (or intimidate people into letting them bypass rules), keep piss-poor paper/documentation records, and try to move quickly so [xyz] is done before a lawyer can get a complaint in front of a judge who would stop [whatever action, such as deportation]

      Fuck ICE

He was arrested for assault that was unrelated to ICE. When he entered the system he was handed over to ICE.

Sounds like he was a shity person

    7. The US has joined russians in killing Ukrainians. In Ukraine and abroad. Fuck every Trump supporter. Fuck even more every pathetic moron who abstained due to some petty grievances. I fucking curse your whole nation. You children must suffer what Ukrainians suffered for centuries. The US enabled holodomor, the US aided and bailed out russia on numerous occasions throughout past century. Fuck you you pieces of shit. Without you russia would not survive to this day. Fuck you fuck you fuck you!
